Starting from a very humble background, Virat Kohli trained under the guidance of coach Rajkumar Sharma, who helped hone his batting skills at a very tender age. He made his first-class debut in a Ranji Trophy match in November 2006 and rose to prominence after captaining the Indian team to victory in the Under-19 ICC World Cup in 2008. He made his international debut, at the age of 19, and in January 2017, Kohli succeeded MS Dhoni as India's captain in ODIs and T20Is, thus becoming the captain in all three formats. One of the most successful captains India has had, Kohli has been the recipient of many awards including the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honour in India, in 2018. ESPN ranked Kohli as one of the world’s most famous athletes and Time magazine named Kohli one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
