Tennis’ “King of Clay”, Rafael Nadal Awarded a Dubai Star

Born June 3rd 1986, Rafael Nadal is one of the world's most skilled tennis players. The Spaniard was an athletic prodigy; he began to train with his uncle from the age of 3, which resulted in him winning an under-12 tennis regional championship when he was only eight years old. Nadal turned professional by 15, won his first match within his first year and only two years later, won the Miami Open and was listed as one of six players to defeat Roger Federer. As of today, Nadal boasts multiple wins in the US, French and Australian Open titles, as well as Wimbledon titles. He is ranked at number 2 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals and achieved the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award in 2011, after winning his fourth Davis Cup as part of Spain's team.
