" Lea Salonga was born in Manila, Philippines, on February 22, 1971, and showed signs of being a natural performer from childhood. By the age of 7, Salonga was performing lead roles in countless musicals with Repertory Philippines. Her musical prowess grew quick and strong, and by the time she turned 10, she released her first album, which amassed country-wide popularity. Salonga chose to attend university and study to become a doctor; however, during her first year, she auditioned and booked the role of Kim in Miss Saigon on the West End. Since then, Lea Salonga has worked extensively on Broadway and became the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award. Some of her notable roles include portraying Éponine and Fantine on Broadway's Les Misérables, as well as voicing Disney princesses Fa Mulan and Jasmine, which earned her the title of Disney Legend in 2011."
