Idris Elba, born on 6 September 1972 is an actor, writer, producer, musician, DJ, rapper and singer. His first rise to fame came as Stringer Bell on HBO's critically acclaimed series The Wire. A five-time Emmy nominee, he has also cemented a solid place in the 20th spot as one of Hollywood's most in-demand and highest-grossing actors of recent years. As of May 2019, his films have earned over $9.8 billion at the global box office, including over $3.6 billion in North America. In 2016, he landed a spot on Queen Elizabeth II's annual New Year's Honours List, for the indelible mark he left on the British acting community. The Queen appointed him Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), one of Britain's highest honours, previously awarded to actors such as Eddie Redmayne, Keira Knightley, James Corden, and David Beckham.
