Elissar Zakaria Khoury, popularly known as 'Elissa', is a Lebanese music artist. Raised in Deir El Ahmar, Elissa chose to pursue a career in music once she had completed her University degree in Politics. In 1992, the Lebanese superstar competed in a music competition called El Fan and won the silver medal, which exposed her talent on a national level. Elissa released her first album, Baddy Doub, with EMI Records in 1999 and began to receive brand deals. In 2005, she became the first Lebanese singer to achieve a World Music Award for Bestselling Middle Eastern Artist, a title she won two more times. Elissa's fanbase consists of over 50 million followers on social media, and she has effectively sold over 70 million albums globally.
